Vacancies filled under this public notice may havevarying full working levels and/or supervisory levels. Some jobs may have the potential for noncompetitive promotion depending on how the position is structured. For jobs with promotion potential, promotions may occur after you have:

    • performed at an acceptable level of competence; and

Typical duties can include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Researches a variety of sources, analyzes, and initiates actions on tax issues obtaining applicable returns, schedules, and all required information for correction of accounts and records; verifies, analyzes and adjusts taxpayer accounts.
  • Responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules and other documentation; resolves account inquiries; advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special case handling.
  • Analyzes and resolves tax issues as a result of taxpayer amendment requests. Adjusts taxpayer accounts, prepares and issues manual/electronic refunds, performs multiple credit transfers, computes tax, penalty, and interest. Research IDRS returns for the highest routing priority.

  • Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. Employees must also be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. As a reminder - If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. (Birth certificate showing birth in the U.S; Unexpired U.S. Passport; Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization; or Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (Form FS-240))
  • Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification. Refer to "Get Your Tax Record" at http://www.irs.gov/(https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript) to check the status of your account, balance owed, payment history, make a payment, or review answers to tax questions. If you are not in compliance, you will be determined unsuitable for employment with IRS.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

You must meet the following requirements by the time of referral:
General Experience/ Education GS-04:Applicants must have one of the following to qualify at this grade level: At least twelve (12 months) of general experience.
OR

Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school).
OR

A combination of education and experience equivalent to one (1) year of general experience.General experience - Must demonstrate progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.

Specialized Experience/ Education GS-05:Applicants must meet one of the following: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience equivalent to one year of specialized experience. Post-high school education must be from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

  • A recruitment incentive has been authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. The incentive will be $1,000 and will require a one-year service agreement. The service agreement details will be provided to new employees prior to entrance on duty. This monetary incentive will be disbursed as outlined in the service agreement.
  • A season can be from 4-6 of months or 6-8 months and can be extended. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement.
